There has been quite a lot of drama surrounding the golf world this week since news broke that PGA Tour stars Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Rickie Fowler will be taking their talents to the new LIV, Saudi Golf League. Despite these headlines there is still a tournament to be played this week and I can assure you, this news will be an afterthought for the field this week. The 2022 RBC Canadian Open will tee off on Thursday morning, June 8th, at St. George’s Golf & Country Club located in Toronto, Canada. Last time the event was held at St. George’s was in 2010 when Carl Petterson took home the trophy thanks to his impeccable short irons play after barely making the cut line. The course will play as a par 70 with yardage just a hair over 7K. This will be only the seventh time that they have held the tournament at St. George’s in the last 50 years. With that being said, this course is on the shorter side and Scottie Scheffler enters this tournament as not only the number 1 player in the world, but the highest ranked DFS player for the RBC Canadian Open as well. Names like Rory McIlroy, who won this event back in 2019 before the event took a Covid hiatus, will be in the field, as well as the young phenom Cameron Smith. He was playing extremely well last week until some weekend woes with his short game cost him his lead to the eventual winner Billy Horshel. Having a strong short game will be pivotal for success in this week’s tournament. This year’s PGA Champion, Justin Thomas will also be competing and is listed as the one of the favorites to win this event. These players will come at a steep price but for good reason….
